Open discussion - "Poverty in Britain and Child Poverty in particular." - Wednesday 4th May afternoon

A discussion to be lead initially by Ian Dale from Alton Food Bank which is part of the Trussell Trust. He will present the human dimension of poverty based upon his own experience in Alton and research findings from the Trussell Trust.

This will lead to a discussion on the definitions, causes, consequences and possible solutions to poverty in Britain today.

We are organising a series of public meetings under the title of "Exploring Current Issues". These meetings are being organised by Petersfield Lib Dems but they are for everyone and are designed to promote awareness and enhance understanding of important topics. One Tree Books on Lavant street will host them, on the first Wednesday of each month.

The first one is on Wednesday 4th May starting at 1-30pm until 2-45pm. They will be upstairs at the bookshop and are free of charge. Coffee is available in the shop.

The programme for the first three meetings is -

  • Wed 4th May.  "Poverty in Britain and Child Poverty in particular."
  • Wednesday 1st June . "How do we arrive at a fair, humane and workable approach to immigration?"
  • Wednesday 6th July. "How can we start to address the ongoing crisis in the availability and affordably of housing in Britain?"
