Alton Ashdell

Christopher Lawrence

Christopher lives in Ashdell Ward with his wife and children and has been a Councillor previously on ATC from 2011-2015. He is current Chairman of AODS (Alton Operatic and Dramatic Society). As a self-employed fitness and finance professional, Christopher is keen that ATC’s main responsibility as custodian of the town’s growing number of open spaces is successfully managed for the people of the town.

Christopher is adamant that East Hampshire District Council Planning stick to the Alton Neighbourhood Plan and that they actually listen to resident’s views. Alton Town Council are mandatory consultees on planning and he wants future large scale planning applications to be properly scrutinised.

Christopher helped to instigate the original Walkers Are Welcome accreditation and the walking festival to Alton.  Christopher says “As a long time road safety campaigner Christopher I want safe walking and cycling in our town to be encouraged. “

Suzie Burns

Suzie is a life-long Altonian who is a secondary school teacher, mum of two and has lived and worked in Alton for nearly 40 years. Suzie is an active and involved member of the community and enjoys the sporting facilities and open spaces that Alton has to offer. She knows that young people and children must be properly provided for.

Currently Suzie is campaigning for a safe pedestrian crossing across Ashdell Road. Local families and dog-walkers struggle to cross, and the recent road death of an otter highlights the problem of speeding traffic along this busy road.

Suzie is also fed up with distant Councillors making decisions about Alton people’s lives and wants to make sure that local voices are actually heard.

Suzie says “It’s high time to bring decision making back to Alton people. Local people should be making decisions about what happens in our town, not Councillors that do not even know our town.”
